No. 87

No. 87 / Claire
Watercolor, image size 5.125" x 8.125" (paper size 9" x 12")

Can I tell you how lucky I am?  It was my birthday this week and I got oodles of art related goodies. I cannot wait to try out some new media + mediums in the upcoming weeks. You may even see some videos!

This morning's painting comes to you later than usual. I had some finishing work to do on the painting before I sent it out. This is of Claire from the Outlander series. The brave, smart woman who travels to 18th century Scotland. The new series begins on April 4, 2015. Are any of you fans?

No. 86

No. 86 / Deputy Kovacs
Watercolor, image size 5.25" x 8.25" (paper size 9" x 12")

I had a very special guest visit me while painting this portrait of Deputy Kovacs from The Grand Budapest Hotel. I will reveal more soon, but I can tell you I am very excited!

One thing I can reveal to you is that April will be the month of MAGNIFIED. This topic is wide open and I am stoked for a new direction. I may even explore some new medium.

Rock your Friday friends!

No. 85

No. 85 / Dougal Mackenzie
Watercolor, image size 5.25" x 8.25" (paper size 9" x 12")

Today's character is another from the Outlander series known as Dougal MacKenzie, war chieftain of Clan MacKenzie. I enjoyed working with these muted colors and hope to explore them a bit more. And, here is a shot that illustrates the size of this painting. Happy Thursday!

No. 84

No. 84 / Red Jamie
Watercolor, image size 5.25" x 8.25" (paper size 9" x 12")
Price: $84.00 plus tax and shipping ($2.30) for list members

Last summer I went abroad to the United Kingdom, and I was intoxicated with the rich history and culture I found there. Scotland was one of my favorite places. Maybe it was the dark sandstone buildings, the father and his young son I saw running errands in their kilts, or the Scottish National Portrait Gallery that appealed to me most. No matter what, I was lucky to have the opportunity.

When my friend, Michelle, told me about the series Outlander I thought it sounded interesting. When I realized it was primarily based in Scotland, I was hooked. Although this series is a modern television show, not a cult classic, I am betting it becomes a fan favorite. This portrait is of the swoon worthy protagonist of the series, Red Jamie (Fraser). He defies death and the Red Coats many times over in the story.

No. 68

No 68 / Claire
Watercolor, 5" x 7"  (less .6" border)

Cult of Portraiture month would not be complete without this gal. She was in a number of movies from the 80s. My favorite was The Breakfast Club. I can't tell you how many times I watched that movie in junior high school wishing I had both her haircut or her "cool."

No. 66

No. 66 / Rachael
Watercolor, Paper size 5" x 7" (with a border approx. .6")

For any of you who were fans of the 1982 classic Blade Runner you might recognize this character. This is the replicant, Rachael, who was played by Sean Young. It doesn't exactly look like Sean, but is recognizable as the character and was very enjoyable to paint.

I have to say I am loving taking these trips into past films!  I hope you have a sunny, productive Saturday! I am off to paint.

No. 36

No. 36 / Uncle
Watercolor, 12” x 9” (Image 8.25" x 5.25")

Two walls of Boise Brewing are lined with brown and blue mugs. What's cool about these mugs is that they represent the 232 community owners of the brewery. Blue mugs are the Kickstarter contributors; brown mugs are the shareholders. They are truly a community brewery.

No. 35

No. 35  / Hannah
Watercolor, 12” x 9” (Image 8.25" x 5.25")

This is a bit of a departure from my boozy still-lifes, but I promise it does have to do with beer. This is Hannah. She was our lovely barmaid at Boise Brewing. She let me freely roam around with my camera, and even let me take snapshot of her. She was so friendly I had to paint her. You know, sometimes it is as much about the people as it is about the beer!

The Dude

I forgot to post this piece here this week. A couple weeks ago I got some DVDs of some fun and favorite flicks. The Big Lebowski was one of them. Jeff Bridges is one of my favorite actors. He's a multi-threat in my eyes; he's an actor, an artist, an activist, a musician . . . I decided to paint "the DUDE" as my ode to his awesomeness.

Paige Weber Art: 365 Days of Art

Painting, drawing, and doodling are some of my favorite activities. My goal for 2015 is to create art 365 days of the year. My new project 365 Days of Art will allow me to do just that and provide original art to you at some VERY affordable prices.
I will sell an original piece of artwork every day of the year beginning January 1, 2015. If you opt in to my email list you will be the first to know what is for sale that day. See a piece of art you can’t live without? Be the first email I receive, requesting it for purchase, and it is yours. It’s that easy. This does mean if you sign up for list you will receive a daily email.
How affordable is affordable? It depends on the day of the year. The price is dependent on the date plus shipping. For example, on January 1, 2015, the painting will be $1.00; January 5, 2015, it will be $5.00; January 31, 2015, it will be $31; February 3, 2015, will be $34. See the pattern here? A painting will never cost more than $365. Because I will be getting married, honeymooning, and moving in 2015, I reserve the right to sell some originals I have around the house during that time. (This lightens my moving load and allows me to continue with my goal.)
Each quarter I will select one lucky person from my mailing list to do a FREE portrait of in the style of my choice. You will then be featured in my PYSM series, in my newsletter, and on my website.
If you don’t follow me on Facebook check out my page here: www.facebook.com/kdc.paigeweber

Jennifer

PYSM
Jennifer

Spunky, tenacious, positive, smart, thoughtful, fun, stylish—these are just a few words that describe this PYSM (People Person You Should Meet.), Jennifer. I worked with Jennifer in college at the University Pulse, the student run radio program. She was our Promotions Director (guru) and a Producer.

When I met up with her to get a photo and have a chat she greeted me with a bag full of accomplishments and a true sense of adventure. (Thank you for the goodies!) When I am around her she inspires this feeling of "anything is possible." Who doesn't want to be around someone like that? She let me 'shadow' her for an afternoon while she was working.

One of the many hats she wears is as business owner. Recab is one in which she is a co-founder—it's the Boise cab company that runs on french fry oil. Can you say fun? We had a great afternoon catching up and taking clients to the airport, the Mall, and home. (What I love about Recab is that they are doing their part for the environment, but they are also a safe cab company for the ladies. Use them the next time you need a ride somewhere. I will be)

Make no mistake though, Jennifer isn't only involved with this revolutionary cab company; she has other business ventures that include artistic management, merchandising, event promotions, and planning. She is one busy gal. She is a trailblazer and thinker

. I can't wait to see what the future holds for her.  I am seriously grateful for the opportunity to catch up with her. You're doing great things, Lady!

PYSM - Kristi #2

This is one of my former PYSM, Kristi, who this time I painted. Hopefully she doesn't mind being my subject again. I have enjoyed the process of working in both pencil and paint, and seeing how the two differ. Here's to hoping your Wednesday evening is shaping up nicely.

PYSM (People You Should Meet)

This is Kristi. She is the owner of Red Betty’s Hair House. She is a smart cookie that I have found to be authentic, honest, kind, and a bit of an old soul. She’s easy to relate to, which is a great quality in someone you spend two hours with getting your hair done. She’s a small business owner rocking it with her own unique brand, which I’ve yet to see anywhere else. Her shop is part tattoo parlor, part blast-from-the-past retro neighborhood hair house. When entering the shop you will probably encounter some laughter, funky music playing in the background (think 90s), and a feeling of catching up with “the girls.” Visiting Red Betty’s is definitely a treat.

So, if you’re in the neighborhood stop in and say hello. Heck, have her cut your hair! I promise you won’t regret it.

Kristi

Usually, if I am stuck in an airport, or waiting for someone, I look at it as an opportunity to whip out my sketchbook. This week I was traveling and needed a little mental “down time” in a frustrating United Air debacle. (I know, surprising, right?)  I only had pencils with me and thought it would be a good starter to a future painting.

Billy

People You Should Meet (PYSM)

Billy C.

I met Billy while riding the tube in London this June. I was with a tour group, sitting in the back corner of the car when he sat down next to me. We went for several minutes without chatting. My introverted side was gazing off and tuning out. Luckily, he inquired about our trip and we started chatting. I am so glad we did! He is a theater performer (actor) and was working in a production of Matilda in London. My tour group had just gone to see the Lion King, so I had an even greater appreciation for his craft. He was so friendly and memorable I had to make him one of my PYSM portraits. I was a little nervous to ask him if I could take his picture for my series.  Let’s face it . . . . it sounds like a pick-up line, but he kindly obliged.

SO, if you are in London go check out Matilda. If not, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with a stranger. You never know what you will learn.

Jane

PYSM (People You Should Meet)

Jane

Jane was our tour guide on my trip through the United Kingdom. She is an Irish lass and a bit of free spirit (and has a great sense of humor). She always shared a smile (even when the broken bus heater was blowing on a hot day and there were 50 sweaty passengers).

In mystical Glastonbury she showed me some hidden shops down an artsy alley where one could find gemstones and crystals, and possibly enlightenment.

She’s a great tour guide. If you go to the UK I hope she’s on your bus.  She is definitely someone you could have a pint and great "craic" with.

Wonder Woman

This one falls into the category of "People I Should Meet." Linda Carter, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful women EVER. Not only was she "plastic-free," she was Wonder Woman! (And she is still a knock-out today.)

I found this excellent Wonder Woman quote online and thought I should share.

"A new journey to be started.
A new promise to be fulfilled.
A new page to be written.
Go forth unto this waiting world with pen in hand, all you young scribes, the open book awaits.
Be creative.
Be adventurous.
Be original.
And above all else, be young.
For youth is your greatest weapon, your greatest tool.
Use it wisely.”

Mike

PYSM (People You Should Meet):

Mike

This is Mike; he is one of my favorite people. He taught me a lot in my early twenties. (I learned how to operate a front-end loader, a roller, and a scraper because of this guy.) I always think of him as a kind of second dad. I had the chance to visit with him the other day and was so glad to see him.

Tommy

Tommy Kane.

First, I have to say I did this portrait off of Tommy's own photo. So, he (or whoever took the photo) should get credit for the picture. And you should know I stole it to use it for my little painting.

I was first introduced to Tommy in an interview he had some years ago. I am a total podcast fanatic, especially when the interviewee is an artist. I am pretty sure Von Glitscha was interviewing him. I was intrigued. I checked out his work online and became a fan. Not only is he totally interesting, he's very, very talented. And funny. (Check out his videos.)

I even asked him to speak at my 2007 Senior Design show, but he was unable attend. He did send me a cool print and a nice note, however. I have never forgotten that kindness and the print hangs in my house along with some of his other work. Go check him out on the inter-webs if you're looking for some fun eye candy.

Kendall

PYSM (People You Should Meet)

Kendall

Truly, I probably didn't capture all her beauty, but I sure tried. She's one of those ladies who is beautiful inside and out. I know Kendall through my brother and his wife; they all went to college together and are close friends. I always remember thinking how nice she was. She's bubbly, fun, spunky and loves people. And, she'll make you dance!

She started a dance fitness class four years ago. She encourages women and girls to get their groove on and find their inner, confident diva. Who couldn't use a little care-free dancing in their life? t think it is special that she works with teen girls, promoting healthy self-image and free expression at such a crucial age. Rock on, Sister! And, she's recently been recognized for staging a stellar flashmob in Boise, with another one coming right up. (Ping me if you want details.)

If you're in the Eagle area or just want to shake your 'thang,' you should check out one of her classes.
