No. 31

No. 31 / Minis
Watercolor, Paper size 7" x 5"

It's official  I have survived the syrupy sweet month of Sweet Indulgence without too much incident, some fun new opportunities, and no weight gain. Phew! These little mini-desserts are a bit of a departure from my latest paintings (they just make me happy!). They are my ode to January.

No. 16

No. 16 / The Barista
Watercolor, 7” x 5” (with approximately .7” border)

Today's painting was an exercise in loosening up. I have a tendency to paint pretty tight. I always aspire for loose, flowing dollops of color, but then can't resist the details. The one thing that excites me about this project is the opportunity for improvement and artistic growth.

I also found a group on Facebook (how is it I never knew about the awesome art groups there) called Watercolor Addicts. The artists in this group are incredible and very inspiring! I highly recommend joining or shadowing a group.

With that, I wish you a very joyous and creative Friday!

No. 14 The Billy Graham
Watercolor, 5” x 7” (with approximately .7” border)

I liked this little Guru Donut because of its little top hat (meringue).

No. 13

No. 13 Zen
Watercolor, 5” x 7” (with approximately .7” border)

One thing I loved when walking into Guru Donuts were the little iconic figurines of Buddha, Mary, and Yoda placed in the display case in the wall—something to ponder while waiting to order.  Here is another painting from my the trip.

No. 12

No. 12 Hipsterberry
Watercolor, 5” x 7” (with approximately .7” border)

For the longest time I have wanted to take a trek to Guru Donuts, but for whatever reason was never able to do it. Finally, last weekend I got to witness their awesome new space downtown.

While standing in line I was eyeballing all the donuts to see which would make the best specimens for my project. Hipsterberry immediately caught my eye with its vibrant magenta and purple tones. It was the only one it the lineup with any fresh color that day.

“Oh, I am sorry. It looks like we are all out of Hipsterberry,” the girl behind the counter told the man in front of me.

What?! I want that doughnut!

When my turn came I tried to pick the most visually interesting doughnuts I could find. Again, the girl had to inform me they were all out of one I wanted.

“It’s a demo model. We can’t sell them as they’ve been out in the air . . .”

I quickly told her what I was doing with the doughnuts and scored both of them, no charge. AND, it saved me from eating them.

If you are looking for a fun outing on a weekend check out Guru. Fun ambiance. Yummy doughnuts.

No. 11

No. 11 Cake
Watercolor, 5” x 7” (with approximately .7” border)

"Let them eat cake." Ice cream cake, that is. I loved the pink frosting on it. Luckily, it is still in the freezer and not on my hips.
